Bacau

Bacau is the main city in the county of Bacau. It is situated in the historic region of Moldovia and at the foothills of the Carpathian mountains. Libra partner organisation in Bacau is the charity Fundatia de Sprijin Comunitar (FSC). FSC works in a number of areas across the city. Their programmes include the elderly, disadvantaged children and their families, hospitals and their “Impart” combined arts programme, which aims to stimulate and aid recovery for those with special needs.

The Mosaic Centre

The Mosaic Centre is the FSC's new head office and has a day centre for children and the elderly to attend. Its name is derived from the desire to work with people from different walks of life. street children, Rroma children and under-privileged Romanian children attend the centre on a regular basis.

The Rural Projects

Many Romanians living in rural villages to the east of the Siret River are extremely poor and in bad weather the roads and tracks can become impassible. FSC runs a travelling medical team and gives crucial support to these people. They also organise projects which operate in the Day Centres. Children attend the Club de Lipicii (The Sticky Club) and participate in after-school activities.

Libra directs all its attention to work with these rural poor and our summer projects support FSC's work and offer art, craft, language, music, dance and sports activities. Libra's two week camps are intended to encourage school attendance by lending pleasure and enjoyment to learning.

The Volunteer Project

FSC already has a nationally recognised volunteer programme and believes volunteering is an important expression of citizenship. Libra works closely with these volunteers on both the urban and rural projects.
